Colorado State and Open Wrap Up

The Barbell Strategy Weightlifting Team had a very productive meet with six out of our eight lifters not only medaling but bringing home Gold Medals!

Saturday was dedicated to Youth, Juniors and Masters Weightlifting. Elizabeth O'Connor in her first meet made 5 of her 6 attempts and took the Gold in the Masters 63kg weight class 50-54 division. Tim O'Connor made all six of his attempts and won the men's Masters 77kg class 50-54 division.

This was just a tune up meet for Ben Jaros, but he still took the Junior 77kg Gold Medal and also won Best Lifter in the 20 and under category with a PR Total 205 and a six for six day. Ben will be lifting this weekend at the Junior Nationals in Valley Forge, PA.

Jim Jones, lifting in the 105+ 40-44 age group made all 6 of his attempts and took Gold. This was Jim's first meet since having his shoulder surgically rebuilt. Been a long road back but now he is back in the saddle! Congrats Jim.

Jeremy Layport our newest member and he is also a strength coach for the CU Buffs football team. This was his first weightlifting meet in eight years and he had a nearly perfect five for six day, just missing his third snatch at 125kg. Jeremy was the only lifter Saturday to put 300lbs overhead. Here he is with a 137kg, 301.4lbs. for the Gold medal in a hotly contested 94kg 35-39 class.

Sunday was all open senior men and women and EJ Isla kicked off the day in the Men's 77kg class with a wicked early weigh-in time of 7am and lifting at 9. Although EJ had a tough day as far as pushing his meet bests forward, he still made some very nice lifts and finished just outside podium contention.

Jordan Pepe and Mandi Schaeffer Fry both lifted in the women's 69kg class. Mandi went four for six attempts, missing her opening snatch but making her next two solidly. Building on the snatch momentum, Mandi made two strong clean and jerks and her third clean was a solid PR 82kg but she just couldn't control the jerk. Good lifting from Mandi! Jordan continued to grow into her new weight class with some solid lifts. She went four for six also coming back after a hard C/J miss at 86kg to make 87kg and secure her Gold medal spot on the podium.

Just about that action, boss. Mandi, Jordan and EJ
