Weekend Update

Addie training during 2015 track season

Lots going on this weekend with the athletes that train with us at Barbell Strategy.

First of all, I am terribly excited for the three women who have worked with us over the last year and a half who are racing the Olympic Trials Marathon this Saturday, February 13th. Hudson Elite's Addie Bracy, Kara Lubieniecki and Claudia Becque are three of the hardest working athletes you will ever meet. More often than not, their lifting session was their 3rd workout of the day. Joining them are their Hudson Elite teammates Nicole Camp and Matt Daniels. This year, for the first time ever, NBC Sports will be covering the Trials live starting at 1PM Eastern Time (11 a.m. Mountain Time) and you can also watch online using the NBC Live Extra app. (As I write this the Big Day is just 2 days away and I am, as my dear departed grandmother used to say, about to have a fit!)

Next up this weekend, Matt Gianinno will be racing Saturday in the 3k and 5k events at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational. That race can be live streamed on FloTrack. Matt has set a couple of indoor mile PRs recently, running a 3 second best 4:09 a few weeks ago and last week lowering that mark to 4:08.

Last but certainly not least, Saturday and Sunday 8 members of the Barbell Strategy Weightlifting Team will be competing at the annual Colorado State and Open Weightlifting Championships in Denver at the Crowne Plaza Denver International Airport Hotel on 40th Ave in Denver. If you have never been to a weightlifting meet this is going to be all day action: the largest meet ever held in Colorado with over 140 entries! Please come on down to Denver and cheer everyone on!

Jordan, Mandi, Ben and EJ fine tuning in preparation for CO State and Open this weekend

Saturday's schedule for our team goes like this: 77kg Ben Jaros will lift at 11am. (This is a tune up meet for Ben who will be competing in the Junior Nationals Friday, February 19th in Oaks, Pennsylvania.) At 1 PM, 63kg Master Elizabeth O'Connor will be lifting. At 3 PM 77kg Master Tim O'Connor will be lifting. And at 7 PM 94kg Master and +105kg Master (respectively) Jeremy Layport and Jim Jones will lift.

On Sunday 77kg EJ Isla kicks things off bright and early starting at 9AM. Then 69kg Mandi Schaeffer Fry and Jordan Pepe anchor the weekend effort starting at 3.

Everyone has worked extremely hard through a difficult training cycle and I am expecting to see some good lifting this weekend!

Next weekend starting Thursday the 18th, the Ric Rojas Running Team will be competing at Idaho State in the Simplot Games, And Friday, the 19th Ben Jaros will be in Pennsylvania going for personal bests at the USAW Junior Nationals
